The Octopus Energy referral scheme — officially called “Refer a Friend” — lets existing Octopus customers share a personal link. When a new customer switches to Octopus using that link and their first Direct Debit clears, both parties receive £50 credit added to their Octopus accounts. That’s £100 split in total for residential customers.

For business customers, the reward is higher: £75 each, totalling £150. The business scheme uses a separate process — more on that below.

There is no cap on how many people you can refer. Each successful referral earns the same reward, and the credit never expires as long as you remain a customer.

How Long Does the £50 Octopus Referral Credit Take to Arrive?

The credit typically arrives two to four weeks after your first Direct Debit payment. Your first Direct Debit is usually taken four to six weeks after you complete your switch, which means the total wait from switch to credit is roughly six to ten weeks.
